Christmas Day

The kids (and parents) did not get much sleep last night but they had a great time today opening some presents and getting to play with their new toys. It helps when it is 65 degrees and sunny in Georgia today! Big items for Brendan included a “big boy” bike and a “choo choo” train.  For Brielle, it was a “big stuffy unicorn” and a bean bag chair for her room. They also both got walkie talkies which were a big hit

After we had lunch the kids headed outside with a few of their friends to ride bikes . Brendan is working on his balance bike skills!

Merry Christmas from the Knight Family! We love the Carter’s matching Santa jammies!

The Magic of Christmas Eve

Brielle and Brendan could barely contain their excitement tonight on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa! It is such a fun evening when the kids are this age. They opened up their gifts from Snowflake which were matching Santa jammies from Carter’s of course 🙂

They put out cookies, milk, and M&M’s for Santa:

And we could not forget about carrots and water for the reindeer. They decided that the back deck was a better landing pad for Rudolph instead of the front porch! Good thinking!

Breakfast With Santa

We had a great time visiting with Santa at our neighborhood clubhouse this morning.  I love all the great events that our neighborhood puts together for the kids.  Brendan was a litle shy at first but he warmed up for a quick talk about his “choo choo train” that is at the top of his list this year.  Brielle made sure Santa knew about the “giant stuffy unicorn” at the top of her list.

2019 Santa Pictures

Our old pre-school Kids R Kids in Mableton used to partner with a local photographer to offer pictures with Santa. We had done it the last couple years and liked the event and pictures.  When we moved this summer, we knew we needed to find an alternative.  Brielle and Brendan both take swim lessons at Atlanta Swim and we discovered that they host a holiday party that features pictures with Santa. The best part is that they allow you to use your own camera!  As a photographer this was exactly what I was looking for.  When we arrived they even had LED light stands setup so no flash needed!

Brendan initially got scared and did not want to go see Santa but after watching big sister Brielle go up he built up some courage and did a complete 180.  We even got smiles and a handshake from him!

2019 The Adventures of Snowflake the Elf

Snowflake made her appearance at our new house the night after Thanksgiving and went on all kinds of adventures this year. Follow her as she brings the Christmas spirit to the kids every morning. Of all our Christmas traditions, this is probably my favorite! Kudos to Crystal for it is her creativity that inspires Snowflake each night!

Remembering Jake Burton Carpenter the Legendary Founder of Burton Snowboards

Sad day in the snowboarding world as Jake Burton lost his battle with cancer yesterday. Jake was a huge figure in my life growing up and continued to be when I worked at Burton.

This timeline that the Burton team posted is a great read on the history of Jake and his life:

He also did an interview with Guy Raz for the “How I built This podcast that I really enjoyed: https://www.npr.org/2017/12/05/559034228/burton-snowboards-jake-carpenter

2019 Mt Bethel Fun Run

33rd Annual Mt. Bethel Elementary School Fun Run

Each year the Mt. Bethel PTA sponsors a fun run to raise money to support the school.  When Brielle heard about this she was excited to signup – her first official running race. As a former runner, I was happy to see and support her enthusiasm for running!

The event offers a 5k, 1Mile, and 1/2 mile (kindergarten) options:

The gun went off and it was a mad sprint!  We found some room to run and got into a steady pace. Brielle powered through the last two hundred yards to finish with a time of 4:15.7!Since they ran the boys and girls together it was hard to tell what place she came in but when they got to the awards they announced that Brielle got 4th place!
